  • Artists DUFI work with pupils from Broxburn Academy in creating the 'Clocking Off' installation at Broxburn Swimming Pool site during September 2010

Started in Broxburn, this community group aims to change the towns and villages in Shale Valley (all communities established through the shale mining industries- from Pumpherston to Uphall to Threemiletown to Broxburn to Winchburgh) through visual and cultural regeneration, and the custodianship of changed environments. 

It's first impact is the current Shale People Project, creating five art installations throughout Broxburn and Uphall during 2010 - bringing four renowned Scottish artists to create works which link the communities now with the shale mining heritage of the towns. This project has established positive collaboration with key community groups in the concepts, content and production of the final artworks. The group meets every month (check noticeboard for latest news) to discuss current and potential future projects which can include, enrich and reflect the communities it serves. We are always looking for local people who have interesting ideas regarding the use of art as a catalyst for change.
