A Brief History of Broxburn
5 May, 2010Here are a few key dates in the history of Broxburn.
c1350 - Eastertoun, the settlement which preceded Broxburn, is established.
1660 - Eastertoun is renamed Broxburn.
1821 - The Union Canal is built to the west and Broxburn grows.
1849 - Further growth as the railway is established to the south.
c1850s - The shale oil industry develops and becomes a major employer.
1948 - Albyn Park, home of Broxburn Athletic, opens on the site of Albion Park, home ground of the defunct Broxburn United.
2010 - s1Broxburn.com is launched to let residents discuss local issues, place small ads, air their opinions, advertise events and show off pictures and video.

That's the briefest of brief summaries and it's full of gaps. But this is where you come in. There's lots of interest in local history and lots of local knowledge out there - so why not share it here?
