Broxburn street safe to open after storm
East Main Street is now open, after 100mph winds made a chimney unsafe and forced the road to close.
The street was shut for safety reasons until the damage to the stone vent could be structurally assessed.
Hundreds of trees came down during Tuesday's (January, 3) storm, closing many roads across West Lothian; whilst trees, garden furniture, huts and greenhouses caused damage in gardens.
Several areas lost power, including two care homes which had to switch to emergency power supplies.
Country parks, such as Almondell and Calderwood, were also badly affected with damage to trees and a major clean-up operation is now underway.
Members of the public are being advised to telephone the visitor centre on 01506 844516 to check the situation before visiting
A West Lothian Council spokesperson said: “Council staff will continue to deal with the impact of the storm and will prioritise the issue of health and safety to the public.
“It is too early at the moment to estimate the cost of the storm."
