Gun stolen from Broxburn abattoir
Police are appealing for information after an abattoir gun and cartridges were stolen from Vion Hall Foods.
The captive bolt gun - serial number 12445 - was taken sometime between 2.30pm on Thursday, December 22 and 10am on Tuesday, December 27.
A police spokesperson said that the firearm was “a lethal weapon if used against humans”, therefore, it was vital that anyone with any information contacted police immediately.
The spokesperson added: "A full investigation is underway to trace this gun which is used in controlled conditions in the abattoir.
"Anyone caught with this gun is risking a prison sentence as it would be considered a firearm if in the possession of the general public."
Anyone with information should contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131 or the charity Crimestoppers in confidence and complete anonymity on 0800 555 111.
