MP welcomes Broxburn Academy pupils in Parliament visit
20 JanuaryGraeme Morrice MP recently welcomed around 20 pupils and staff from Broxburn Academy to the Westminster Parliament in London.
Mr Morrice gave them a tour of the Houses of Parliament and answered their questions about the work that Scottish MPs do on behalf of their constituents. The Higher Drama pupils were visiting Westminster as part of an organised trip to London, which included a visit to the Globe Theatre.
Their visit follows similar ones from other schools in West Lothian last year.
Graeme Morrice MP said: “It was a pleasure to welcome the Broxburn Academy pupils and staff to Westminster and show them around the Houses of Parliament. Members of Parliament from Scotland help to make decisions on a wide range of important issues such as taxation, welfare reform, overseas aid and development and the defence of the nation.
“I believe that it is really useful for young people in Scotland to have first-hand opportunities to visit Westminster and learn about these issues, and hope that other schools in my constituency will visit during the rest of this parliamentary term.”
Peter Reid, Head Teacher at Broxburn Academy who joined the pupils on the visit said:
“We are very grateful to Graeme for giving so generously of his time. The tour of parliament was very informative and was one of the trip's highlights for pupils and staff. Graeme gave us a real insight into the parliamentary process and the function of committees and the two houses.”
